Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get gigs?

You should’ve received an email with an invitation to Sling. Download this app. You will be notified of upcoming gigs through it. Apply for the gigs you want to take.

Be sure to turn your notifications on in Sling to see opportunities for work!

When and how do I get paid?

GigItUp runs payroll on the 10th and 25th of each month. Banks take time to process it. The money will show up in your account 1-3 business days later, depending on your bank.

Will there be government deductions on my paycheck

Every paycheck, GigItUp will make government mandated deductions for your taxes, Employment Insurance, and Canadian Pension Plan. However, you will also receive an extra 4% on each paycheck for vacation pay.

I don’t have data or a phone right now. Can I still work for GigItUp?

GigItUp is an app based platform. It does require access to a computer or a phone. If you don’t have one, we might be able to make accommodations until you earn enough to purchase one. Contact our support team using the form at the bottom of this page to see what we can do.

Having data on your phone allows you to see more upcoming gigs and makes timesheets easier, but is not mandatory.

What happens if I make a mistake on my timesheet?

At the end of every gig, it is important to submit an accurate time sheet. If a mistake is made, you must edit it through Sling as soon as possible.

If you notice a mistake and can no longer edit it through Sling, contact our support team using the form at the bottom of this page.

How often do I need to accept gigs?

Building your profile by completing gigs will mean you are offered more gigs in the future. Work more to get offered more opportunities.

You need to work at least once per month to stay active on our platform.

I want to work full time but am not getting enough opportunities through GigItUp.

Our platform prioritises giving gigs to those who work the most. There are people working full time through the GigItUp platform. However, getting to that point requires building up your portfolio by applying for and completing as many gigs as possible.

Don’t have time to wait to start working full-time? We often have positions available in our sister company, Yak Energy Services. If you want to learn more, message our support team using the form at the bottom of this page.

What do I need to bring to each gig?

You need to bring work gloves, closed toe shoes, appropriate clothes, water, and food for the day to every gig.

Some gigs require additional equipment. A list of what else to bring will be in the shift details in SLING.

What is CSTS? How do I get it?

Some gigs require Construction Safety Training Services certification. This is online training that you can access for free.

Most gigs requiring CSTS just require the Fundamentals course. It can be accessed here.

Additional CSTS modules can be accessed here.

When you complete CSTS courses, submit your certificates by completing the form at the bottom of this page. Doing this work will help you on the jobsite and make more gigs available to you.

I committed to a gig and something else unavoidable came up. What should I do?

When you accept a gig, you need to show up on time and ready to work. Failure to do so will give you a negative rating on your profile. This means that less gigs will be offered to you in the future.

However: we understand that sometimes unavoidable emergencies come up. If you are absolutely unable to make a gig you committed to, contact us immediately by calling or texting 587-803-2420. If you do this and you have good reason to miss the gig, our support team will remove the negative rating from your profile.

What do I do if an employer asks me to do something unsafe?

GigItUp prioritizes worker safety. Employers are the primary people responsible for safety on their job site, and this is reflected in our contracts with them. However, workers also have a role to play.

If you are asked to do something that you are unqualified, underequipped, or or uncomfortable doing: we expect you to refuse to do it.

If the employer is creating an unsafe worksite or pressures you to do something that you have refused to do for safety reasons: we will have your back. Please call or text our On Call Lead immediately at 587-803-2420.

What happens if I get hurt on a jobsite?

We want you to be safe. We expect employers to provide a safe worksite and workers to refuse unsafe work.

However: accidents do still happen. GigItUp workers are covered by GigItUp’s WCB and insurance. To insure coverage, you need to seek appropriate treatment and let us know immediately if you are hurt. Do that by calling or texting our team at 587-803-2420.

Please note: you are only covered by GigItUp’s insurance and WCB if we know you are on the jobsite. This is why it is important to only accept gigs through Sling. If you make other arrangements with an employer, you will not be covered.

An employer wants to hire me long term. What should I do?

Most of our gigs are short term. This is reflected in our pricing to customers. For longer term gigs (10+ working days), we charge customers less. If you are at a jobsite and get asked about long term work, tell the employer to call us at 587-803-2420 so we can negotiate details.

How do I see my profile?

When you joined GigItUp, you received an email with a link to your profile. If you cannot find it, contact our support team using the form at the bottom of this page. They will resend you a link.

How do I change my profile picture?

Go into Sling and change your picture there. It will automatically change on your GigItUp profile, although this might take a few hours to happen.

Occasionally our automated system has issues with a picture. If your profile picture doesn’t change within one day, send it to our support team using the form at the bottom of this page.

I got a review that I don’t agree with. What should I do?

If you got a review that you disagree with, let us know using the form at the bottom of this page. Our team will review it. At their sole discretion, reviews which are discriminatory, defamatory, or untrue will be removed from your profile.
